A bit about me...
Lillois by adoption, Canadian by birth, I am professor emeritus of the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), where I taught for 26 years as a specialist in early English theatre – a field that both suited and developed my highly varied interests. I also served as Chair of English & Film Studies, and then as Acting Chair of Modern Languages & Cultural Studies. I now work part-time as an administrator and academic advisor in International Relations for the Université Catholique de Lille, where I also teach occasional courses on Shakespeare, modern British literature, cinema, and cultural history more generally. I am also an avid photographer, whose work has been exhibited in the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille, which boasts the largest art collection in France outside of Paris.
An association with the popular LILLE ("Learn In Lille, Live Europe") European Summer Program for international students, while I was still working for the UAlberta, led to my giving guided tours of Lille and the region, particularly with an emphasis on World War I, but ranging from medieval architecture in Bruges and Amiens to comic book street art in Brussels. This in turn led to my becoming a guide-conférencier de France, following a permanant move to Lille.
